From 3 hours to 15 minutes: Gránit Bank’s lending transformation with Intuitech

When Gránit Bank set out to build a truly frictionless and digital lending process, they turned to Intuitech to make it happen.

Goal

As a rapidly growing digital bank, Gránit Bank’s goal was to reduce manual administration in the mortgage lending process to the extent possible, and to be the first in the Hungarian market to create a fully digital lending experience. The aim was to accelerate document processing, reduce human error in identifying critical knock-out criteria, and free up teams’ time to focus on more complex, higher-value customer interactions.

Challenge

Processing a complex mortgage application, which can include up to 15 different documents and around 60 pages, required on average 3 to 4 hours of manual review. This time was often wasted when documents turned out to be incorrect, outdated, or contained a clear knock-out reason. This highly manual process stood as a direct obstacle to Gránit Bank’s strategic vision of building a truly customer-focused digital banking experience.

Result

The results brought a breakthrough. Intuitech’s AI agent reduced the time needed to review mortgage documentation from 3 hours to 15 minutes, cutting document processing time by nearly 70%, and total credit assessment turnaround time by 50%. In the first 200 days, the AI agent analyzed around 9,000 documents, saving approximately 250 man-days and resulting in a more accurate, more efficient credit assessment process. These efficiency gains contributed to Gránit Bank achieving an outstanding cost-to-income ratio of 38.2%, 7.1 percentage points better than the market average, and enabled the bank’s retail loan portfolio to grow by 40.6% year over year, reaching 75.2 billion HUF by the end of 2025.

This development further reinforced Gránit Bank’s ability to maintain an exceptionally low NPL ratio of 0.2%, compared to a market average of 2.1%. The difference is also tangible for customers: communication has become more focused, time to access funds has decreased, and significantly fewer applications need to be restarted due to errors or documents becoming invalid in the meantime.

Fast to market

The core AI components were delivered within a 6-week timeframe. Intuitech rapidly deployed a focused MVP covering the majority of loan documents, allowing the system to go live immediately and making administrator training simple. Since then, the solution has expanded, and now processes nearly all of the required documentation, growing in parallel with Gránit Bank’s steadily expanding customer base.

Built for compliance

For a regulated financial institution, transparency is non-negotiable. Intuitech implemented full, unalterable audit logs that document every single AI-generated data extraction and recommendation, together with the final human review decision. This ensures that Gránit Bank’s AI-driven lending process remains strictly fair, accountable, and transparent.

The most complex documents, such as Sale and Purchase Agreements or bank account statements, are often longer than 10 pages and contain hundreds of data points that need to be reviewed. What previously took up to 2 hours per document now takes around 15 minutes, and the results are detailed enough to give customers a clear picture of any outstanding issues.
